Wednesday Whedon Moment

I want everyone out there who enjoys Wednesday Whedon Moments to know how much I really love you all. I just spent an embarrassing amount of time wading through craptastic amounts of ridiculous fanvids on YouTube to find you something to amuse yourselves w/ this week.

Go try to find a not set to music clip from BtVS.  I dare you.

So here are fourteen seconds of my undying devotion to all of you in Readerland.

And, it made me

Monday Monty Python

You asked for it.

Well...one of you did anyway!

That Rainy Day Feeling

I just had to share teh cute.

I may need to get her some rain boots...since I don't think those are really weather appropriate.

But she sure likes them.

And the rain.

And we have had plenty of that lately.

Don't Panic!

Thanks to Phy/Bob for reminding me to remember my towel!

And also, thanks for all the fish!

Stupid Smart People

In the Navy I had the honor of working w/ many wonderful people, and I met a lot of people who were extremely intelligent (it was a requirement in my field), but they lacked a certain, how you say, common sense to them.  Most of them recognized this easily.

My brother is one of these.  He was bored in High School, so he didn't graduate.  He has blown through ASVABs and other standardized tests w/ beautiful scores.  He is intelligent.  He is finally finishing his GED, and doing some other things for which I am extremely proud of him.  (I try to not look down on people for their education levels.)

But he often does things that make me pretend we are not related.

Pouring gasoline on something to make a fire and lighting it w/ a tiny Bic lighter is one of those.

He didn't realize that the black spots that developed on his arms were in fact third degree burns, until my mother described them to me.

She made him go to the hospital at my insistence.

He has to visit the burn clinic tomorrow.

Hey!  Craig!  I don't want to see you on the next list for Darwin Awards.

Oy w/ the poodles already.

May Day is Lei Day

This is a late posted video.

The Kid's school put one of the most interesting celebrations of a cultural event I have ever seen.  Lei Day is such a beautiful time.  This year I learned a lot about the rock we have called home for over two years.

This is a video of the Panorama that the Kid's Kindergarten class put on for the school's celebration program this year.

I love this school.

Sugar + Bubble Wrap

And for all of you WoW geeks out there, some background chatter.

And what is that saying about clean houses and boring lives?

Which is my way of saying, yes, our house is messy right now, MYOB!

By Popular Demand

I bring you "Boys On Trampolines"

I promise to post (quasi) regular installments of trampoline fun.

For Those Of You Who Like to *SQUEEE*

Some of you have been begging me for details, and while I have my own feelings on marriage, I am going to indulge you w/ the gooiness:

The ring that the Guy and I picked out together, and the Clauddagh that I usually wear, but is currently eating holes in my finger.

The Guy came to my place of employment and handed this to my friend Hoku, and asked hir to hand it to me for him.  Of course I said "yes".  We decided this together.  The point was that he surprised me by coming to work and doing it instead of how I suspected he would do it.  I started to get a little choked up, but then the Armored Guard came to pick up our deposit and I had to go open the safe for him, so I politely excused myself, which Hoku and Tiare found amusing (this also made my boss gush a little when we told her the story).

We went to dinner that night, and even though we discussed it w/ the Kid ahead of time, we told her that it was official.

You really can't take a good picture of it.  It's too shiny.

And she was pretty happy.

After all, we are pretty close.

There is some saying about nuts and trees, no?

And anyways, who wouldn't love this man?

No no, he's happy.  This is his "you love me and you know it" face.

So there ya go!

We are going to get married on 14 June of this year.  No, we won't tell you where.  It's going to be small and private and well hidden.  But, fear not, there will be pictures, that's for sure.

And thus the Engagement Story is pau.

Malama Pono!

Greetings & Salutations

It has been my great privilege to know Brandann for almost 9 years now. We met in college when I was a freshman & she was a sophomore. To say that we didn't really get along at first would be a bit of an understatement. We recognized too much of ourselves in each other, and that can be a bit much to handle.

Over the next few years we cautiously formed a friendship, but what really sealed the deal was when she was pregnant with Jada. I feel completely blessed to have been able to share that with her & I wouldn't change a second of it for anything in the world. I am proud to be able to call her my Very Best Friend in the Universe (VBFITU) & my life is better with her in it.

I couldn't think of a better title for this new blog than the one that she has come up with. Life has been....interesting for me the last few months. I married my "college sweetheart" at 23 & now, at 27, I'm getting divorced. It's been one of the most painful & challenging things that I've had to go through in my life, but I am coming out of it a better, stronger woman & I can't wait to see what life holds for me in the future.

So, here's to new beginnings, life's adventures & what may come tomorrow! I hope all of you in Readerland enjoy the ride.....

My newest hair color...never question the magic of the person you trust with your hair!

Here We Go Again

Since taking down the old "Island Life" site from the .mac host I have struggled w/ whether or not to do a family life focused blog.  There were a lot of issues w/ the old blog...but I really loved logging in and seeing the comments from the fam all over creation.

So, I opted for a format where I will have a little more control over what actually goes on on my blog.  For now I will use the Blogger comments, but I will be upgrading to Haloscan very soon...mostly for their yummy editing abilities.

I also wanted to continue to have a space where people could catch up w/ us and see what's going on.  We have a lot of friends and family spread all over the place, from the Windward side of this island (Hi Auntie and Uncle!  *waves*), to the Gunters out in Utah, and Kimmers up in Canukistan, so I want one place for all of them to catch up w/ all of us.

And I have chosen "Blessed and Cursed and Won".  That is a description of our life right now (and for certain people reading this, they will get it).

Our lives are in a great place here.  The Kid, the Guy and I are living life and getting the most from it.  The family we have here has made us stronger, and we are so grateful to have them here as we stand at the giant edge of the Great to Come.

I won't post here nearly as often as I did at the old place.  My primary blog focus is still going to be my main site, and I am working on contributing for the Privilege Project b/c I believe in it's importance.

Also new is the Comment Policy, which I strongly advise you read before posting here.

Thanks to those of you who are coming back.  We have missed you, and I hope this turns out better than the last time.

I have also invited someone to write here w/ me.  I hope she will consider it, even if she only posts occasionally.  If she does, I will let her introduce herself.

Until next time, Malama Pono.

too much rock for one hand!

At our celebratory dinner, showing that we do, indeed, have too much rock for one hand.

Comment Policy-- A Note From the Moderatrix

This is a SAFE SPACE. You are a GUEST at my blog, and are expected to act accordingly. I encourage comments. In fact, I thrive from the warm loving glow emanating from the comments. There are, however, rules.

Be mindful when posting here that the Moderatrix is a feminist minded progressive woman. Hate speech of any kind is not welcome.

Anyone who is not respectful of myself, my family, my friends, my guests, fellow bloggers or anything/one else that I feel is being insulted will be deleted, mocked, edited, or have their comments become fodder for a post, here or elsewhere.

There is no constitutional right to free speech here. Either abide by my rules or feel the Moderatrix's wrath, which is mighty and swift. You are free to go out and get your own corner of the Intertubes and spread hate and bile there. It doesn't necessarily make you a bad person, just an asshole. You won't be lonely, because you will be in good company.

Anonymous commenters will be deleted immediately. It causes confusion and is not in keeping w/ the good order of the Blog.

Bottom line is, my blog, my call. There are no second chances and you will not pass go. Do not tap dance on the line.

You have been warned.

A good rule to follow is to adhere to the "Bill and Ted Mantra". Be Excellent to Each Other. Om.

Otherwise, enjoy your visit, and we hope to see you around again.
